Rapid testing to be deployed across health facilities

The Lagos State Government has said it will soon validate its rapid testing strategy in order to be able to confirm if a person has been infected with coronavirus within ten minutes.

Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Professor Akinola Abayomi stated this on Thursday during a COVID-19 update before newsmen.

He said the rapid testing will be deployed across all hospitals for all those coming into the hospitals to get tested for COVID-19 before being allowed into any health facility in the state.

Also read, Nigeria coronavirus deaths hit 200, total cases now 6,677

He also said that the rapid testing will be used to test health professionals to know those who have been infected before but survived and have now become immune to the virus. This, he said, will enable them to carry out their functions with more confidence.

Professor Abayomi also clarified that the reason Lagos was recording more cases than Kano despite demographic similarities was because Lagos has more testing centres than Kano.

More details shortly…
