…UNIBEN students decry rape, demand justice for late Uwa
Following the rape and killing of miss Uwaila Omozuwa by some unknown persons in a church where she had gone to study at night, students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), have taken to the streets of Benin to demand justice for Uwa.
Uwaila Omozuwa was a 100-level student of the department of Microbiology at the University of Benin. She had gone to study at her local church, Redeemed Christian Church of God ( RCCG), Ikpoba Hill, Benin City where she was attacked with a fire extinguisher, raped and killed.

This incident happened on the 27th of May, 2020, and since then, there have been various forms of protest from Nigerians demanding justice for Uwa. This protests have mostly been virtual as it was done across various social media handles.
However, students from University of Benin have decided to take to the streets in a peaceful protest while demanding justice for their colleague whose live was cut too short.
The students voiced their opinions concerning the issue. Some described the incident as a terrible one and the criminals as dark-hearted people. Another student said that the act of rape should not be accepted in the society and even the killing of the victim makes the act more unpleasant to the ears. The student urges the authorities to take immediate step in looking into the crime committed.
Several other students were of the opinion that parents should be wary of places that their children go and at what time they go. They equally express their shock concerning the place where this terrible act was carried out- the church.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Lilian Imuetinyan Salami also makes a statement in which she expresses her shock regarding the issue. She advices students of the university to be careful as to what company they keep.
Similarly, the general overseer of RCCG, Pastor E.A. Adeboye assures everyone that the matter is already being looked into. He also sympathises with the family of deceased and prays for them.
Governor Obaseki of Edo State equally expresses his sadness at this act. He commiserates with the Omozuwa family and assures them that the death of their daughter will be properly investigated and the culprits shall be brought to book.
It is however shocking to know that the police are demanding money to investigate the death of Uwa. This was made known by Judith Omozuwa, sister to the deceased. She says that it is very bad of them to have demanded money as they might not be able to get it.
Above all, we pray that Uwa is justifiably avenged and the perpetrators of this terrible crime are brought to book.
