Obaseki met opposition PDP leadership in Abuja Wednesday night
The embattled Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki is reportedly perfecting his defection plans to Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Punch reports that the Governor, who was disqualified by the party from contesting its June 22 governorship primary, met with the governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Wednesday night.
It was learnt that Obaseki met the PDP governors to perfect his defection to the opposition party following his resignation from the APC.
Another meeting is expected today between Obaseki and major leaders of the party.
Recall that following the crisis in the APC in Edo State resulting from the clashes between the immediate past national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, the Governor was forced to resign from the party. His Deputy, Philip Shaibu also followed suit with his resignation, alleging that Oshiomhole had hijacked the party.

Nigeria Today gathered that Obaseki had been making moves to defect to the opposition party as he had earlier this week met with one of the party’s most powerful strategist and financier, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
Sources from the grapevine say Obaseki and his supporters may defect en masse to the opposition within the next 24 to 48 hours, as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had given all the politics parties contesting in the September election 10 days to conclude their primary elections.
Meanwhile, there are still rumours in several quarters that the APC still has its eyes set on Obaseki returning to the party and bearing the party’s flag in the Guber election. This comes after the new leadership of the party under Senator Abiola Ajimobi annulled the party’s primaries in the state and ordered a fresh screening.
