Mc Oluomo sets up task force to monitor fare hike in Lagos
MC Oluomo, the chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers was a guest of popular TV host Funmi Iyanda’s show Public Eye on Friday and speaks about joining active politics on Lagos.
Oluomo whose real name is Musiliu Akinsanya said he has no intention in the interim of joining active politics, effectively dispelling the rumours that he is planning to contest for a political office in Lagos State in the future.
Oluomo who is a known supporter of the All Progressives Congress’s, however, said is fully in “support” of the party in government in the state.
“The constitution permits anyone to contest,” the union boss said in Yoruba. “But count me out of it (contesting).”
“I don’t want to be a rep, a senator or a governor,” he said.
Fare hike in Lagos
Speaking on other issues during the programme, Akinsanya also disclosed that NURTW has set up a committee to ensure fares in different parts of the state do not get too high for commuters following the state government’s directive cutting passenger limits for different types of vehicles due to coronavirus.

Recall that the government also imposed a state-wide ban on the operations of commercial motorcyclists.
“I gave out my number at a recent forum so that people can call to report cases of hike in fare,” Akinsanya said. “We have also set up a task force to that effect.”
A bad PR stunts
Meanwhile, some Nigerians have condemned his appearance on the respected TV show host’s programme, calling it a poor attempt at whitewashing the union boss for a future political office.
“Either deliberate or not, whatever it is MC Oluomo got going with the PR stunt is impressive. But it’ll require a lot more to stop me from associating him or NURTW with bloodshed and a reign of terror. Childhood days in Isolo, my mother had a shop at Afariogun in Oshodi,” wrote a Strategy and Transformation expert, Ayo Bankole on his Twitter handle.
“If MC Oluomo cud be dry cleaned & starched, then presented to Lagosians as Tinubu’s anointed candidate If Kayode Ogundamisi (OPC Warlord) cud be transformed to an ‘activist’ & given a subsidized UK maintenance. Tell me, what is impossible in the Nigeria Jaga-Jaga-Anyhow-System?,” writes another Twitter user who identified herself as Nefertiti.
But not everyone agrees it was a poor PR stunt as the Twitter user below clearly shows.
